Advertising Spark Earns Award Honoring Moms in Business
Small Business Advertising Firm is One of 200 Leading Businesses Recognized in StartupNation Competition

San Francisco, CA - May 4, 2009 - Advertising Spark announced today it has been recognized as one of the top 200 mom-owned businesses in StartupNations 2009 Leading Moms in Business Competition. Sponsored by VerticalResponse, the competition recognizes the achievements of mothers across the country who run outstanding businesses.

Founded in 2008 by mom Glynns Thomas, Advertising Spark helps educate small businesses on how to effectively promote themselves using free and low cost advertising ideas. Before launching Advertising Spark, Thomas spent 18 years working at some of the worlds best-known advertising agencies and was a vice president of Internet marketing at Wells Fargo. Advertising Spark ranked 52nd among several thousand other contestants in the StartupNation competition.

StartupNation (www.startupnation.com) launched the first annual Leading Moms in Business Competition in January with the support of VerticalResponse (www.verticalresponse.com). Moms across America who have started and are successfully running their own businesses while balancing the demands of their families, their homes and their own well being were honored in this year’s rankings.

Winners were selected and ranked according to the more than 600,000 public votes cast on the Startup-Nation Web site from January through March 2009. The elite 200 win bragging rights, promotional support and digital winner’s emblems recognizing their achievements as a Leading Mom in Business.

“Low-Cost Advertising,” a tutorial written by Glynns Thomas for small business owners who are managing their own marketing efforts, is being published this month by Advertising Spark. The tutorial provides expert advertising advice at a fraction of the cost of hiring a professional. In addition, Thomas will be conducting marketing courses in the San Francisco Bay Area this month, as well as in July and September.

Small Budget Advertising Class
Learn how to effectively advertise your small business using free and low cost tactics

Kentfield, CA - April 6, 2009 - A class on Small Budget Advertising is being offered at College of Marin on Saturday, May 9, 2009 from 9:00 a.m - noon at their Kentfield campus. The focus is how to effectively advertise using free and low cost tactics. It is geared for small businesses who are new to advertising or those looking for a refresher course.

“Now is an opportune time to advertise when the competition is pulling back. It can be done successfully and affordably using free and low cost tactics,” says instructor, Glynns Thomas. “Because this class is focused on advertising with a small budget, it does not cover traditional television and radio advertising. Instead you’ll hear about ways to use the Internet, email, leveraging partner relationships, place-based marketing and much more.”

Ms. Thomas is a 20-year advertising professional. She has worked at some of the world’s largest advertising agencies and was a Vice President of Internet marketing at Wells Fargo. Currently she is the owner of Advertising Spark and is a volunteer with the San Francisco SCORE chapter mentoring small businesses across the nation.
